Noel's Pea Coat + Himalayan Tweed (Made to Measure)
The Form is an exact copy of a Korean War era US Navy issued sailor’s Pea Coat. In fact, the sailor’s name was Noel and it’s the very coat he wore during that period that we copied! We’ve seen lots of attempts to improve this garment, but frankly, we think they all fall short. Made with hand-carved horn buttons.
The Fiber is Himalayan Tweed, one of our Heritage Wools. Like all of our Heritage Fabrics, the cloth used to make this garment is made entirely by hand: first woven together on a wooden loom, then hand-felted to bind the yarns. This process produces a fabric that is as beautiful as it is hard to find.
Our Himalayan Tweed is made using a wool yarn that comes from sheep reared in the Himalaya but is otherwise similar to our Heavy Tweed.
The end result is stitched together by artisan tailors employed in an ethically run, small family business in the Kathmandu Valley with whom we have been working for years.
Noel’s Pea Coat is available in all of our Heritage Wools: Light Tweed, Handwoven Herringbone, Heavy Tweed, Himalayan Tweed, Karnali Natural Tweed and Mugu Merino.
Made to Measure. Please contact us to get started.
Handmade in Nepal.
